Shigeru Uchida is one of Japan’s foremost designers. He is not limited to designing commercial and residential spaces but is also involved in a wide range of activities both nationally and internationally, including furniture and industrial design as well as regional development. Notable works include the Yohji Yamamoto boutique, the Kobe Fashion Museum, the tea houses “Juan, Soan, Gyoan,” the interior spaces of the Crest Tower, Hotel Il Palazzo, Mojiko Hotel, Kyoto Hotel Lobby, Oriental Hotel Hiroshima, The Gate Hotel Kaminarimon, and Sapporo Grand Hotel, for which he provided extensive hotel design. His work is featured in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Denver Art Museum, the Conran Foundation, the M+ Museum, and many others.
