Alessandro Mendini (1931-2019) is one of the key figures in modern Italian design. He shaped the Domus magazine, won the Compasso d'Oro, and was a prominent figure in both the Alchimia and Memphis movements. He was the designer of the Groninger Museum in Groningen and the director of the series of electrical household appliances that Philips produced with Alessi in the 1990s. At Alessi, he brought in renowned names such as Sapper, Graves, and others who played a crucial role in defining the identity of Alessi.
