Alessi Grinder Oaxaca

Discription

The basic rule for a pepper mill is that it must be immediately recognizable as such. You can ironize, surprise or amaze by inventing anthropomorphic and amusing shapes, but nobody is interested in a pepper mill that doesn’t look like one. Always starting out with the desire to amaze with curiosity and extravagance, I reduced my project to the essentials of a column with a rotating head and then preferred to have fun at the lathe. Seasoning a dish with salt or pepper is a familiar table ritual, whereby the mill is held with both hands and the seasoning is performed with a very tactile gesture. Michele De Lucchi approaches this typology by remaining faithful to the classical mechanics of torsion

Information

Alessi Grinder Oaxaca is one of the new salt, pepper and spice-mills that combine craftsmanship with character. Handmade in Cusio, Italy, by expert woodturners, they stay true to the classic twisting mechanism. Michele De Lucchi chose beechwood and drew inspiration from Aztec poles, allowing subtle patterns to emerge naturally during the turning process.

A pepper mill must be instantly recognizable. Playful shapes can surprise or amuse, but a mill that doesn’t look like one loses its purpose. That’s why De Lucchi refined his design to its essence: a column with a rotating knob. The result? Two elegant, compact totems that fit seamlessly into the kitchen, enhancing the rituals of dining and togetherness.
