Dry Espresso Spoon

Discription

Dry is the first cutlery set Alessi produced (1981–1984). It originated from the initial discussions between Achille Castiglioni and Alberto Alessi. The “smiling designer” brought out sketches he had made in the 1950s with his brother Pier Giacomo. Despite its high price and the initial skepticism from marketing (“you can’t enter the market with just one cutlery set”), it became a great success. To this day, it remains one of the few cutlery designs that combine matte and polished finishes with strikingly straight forms.

Ontwerper: Achille Castiglioni

Achille Castiglioni was born in Milan in 1918, and started his career as an architect and designer alongside his brothers Livio and Pier Giacomo in 1938. One of the great masters of Italian design, he was a founding member of ADI in the 1950s. His extensive list of accolades includes eight Compassi d'Oro awards. His work as a designer is an unmistakable blend of simplicity, irony, and enjoyment, showcasing his deep interest in the way objects come to be, in the possibilities of technology, and in the use of new materials. He passed away in 2002.
