Hang On magnetic clothes hanger evolved from a research concerning new applications for unused spaces and came across ceilings as an interesting area of research. By designing the clothes hanger with a strong magnet and a handle, all kinds of existing metal objects suddenly came into view on which clothes could be hung. Think, for example, of heating pipes, suspended ceilings, fluorescent light fixtures, etc.
After the first prototypes in 2001, it took another 10 years before they went into production in 2011. In April 2025, the first series was made from recycled material.

 

 

Ontwerper: Jack Brandsma

Jack Brandsma ( 1969) graduated as an interior architect in Groningen ( 1997) and a a product designer at the Royal College of Art in London (2001). After that he founded his own studio "Een Paar Ontwerpers" Since 2003 he is a part-time lecturer/researcher at Academie Minerva. In recent years he has been heavily involved in materials research.

De magnetische kledinghanger Hang On is voortgekomen uit onderzoek naar nieuwe toepassingen voor ongebruikte ruimtes, waarbij plafonds als interessant onderzoeksgebied naar voren kwamen. Door de kledinghanger te ontwerpen met een sterke magneet en een handvat, kwamen allerlei bestaande metalen voorwerpen ineens in beeld waarop kleding kon worden opgehangen. Denk bijvoorbeeld aan verwarmingsbuizen, verlaagde plafonds, tl-armaturen, enz.
Na de eerste prototypes in 2001 duurde het nog 10 jaar voordat ze in 2011 in productie gingen. In april 2025 werd de eerste serie gemaakt van gerecycled materiaal.
